When you're looking to really dial into what Clearwater's inshore waters have to offer, this extended charter is your ticket to more productive fishing time. We're talking about a full morning that starts at 8:00 AM and gives you two extra hours compared to the typical half-day trips around here. That extra time makes all the difference when you're working the flats and structure fishing spots that hold the best fish. Captain and crew from The Reel Fisher know these waters inside and out, and with just two anglers max on board, you get the personalized attention that leads to better hookups and more fish in the box.
This isn't your run-and-gun fishing trip. We take our time to work the productive areas properly, hitting both the shallow grass flats and the deeper structure where different species set up throughout the day. The extended timeframe lets us adjust our game plan based on tides, weather, and what the fish are telling us. You might start the morning working a grass flat for redfish and snook, then move to some deeper structure for grouper and snapper as the sun gets higher. The beauty of having those extra hours is that we can really explore different techniques and spots without feeling rushed. All your tackle, bait, and gear comes included, so you just need to show up ready to fish. Whether you're a seasoned angler or still learning the ropes, the extended format gives everyone time to get comfortable and start connecting with fish.
We run a variety of setups depending on what we're targeting and where we're fishing. For the flats work, we'll have you throwing live shrimp and pinfish on lighter tackle - perfect for snook around the mangrove edges and redfish cruising the grass beds. When we move to structure fishing for grouper and snapper, we'll bump up the tackle and drop some heavier baits down to where these fish hold. The boat stays positioned with the trolling motor so you can work your baits naturally, and we're constantly reading the fish finder to stay on productive bottom. Live bait is the name of the game most days, but we'll also mix in some artificials when the conditions are right. The extended timeframe means we can really fine-tune your technique - if you're not getting bites on one presentation, we have plenty of time to switch things up and find what's working.
Cobia are some of the most exciting fish you'll encounter on this trip, and Clearwater's waters hold some quality fish. These brown sharks, as locals sometimes call them, can show up anywhere from 20 to 60 pounds and they fight like freight trains. Spring and early summer are peak times when they're moving through the area, often following rays on the flats or hanging around structure. What makes cobia so special is their curiosity - they'll actually come up to check out the boat, giving you sight fishing opportunities that get your heart pumping. When one shows up, everything else stops because these fish don't stick around long.
Tripletail might be the quirkiest fish we target, but they're absolute money when you find them. These guys float on their sides near any piece of floating debris, crab traps, or channel markers, looking just like a piece of seaweed until they move. Summer through early fall is prime time, and once you learn to spot them, you'll be hooked on this unique style of fishing. They're excellent table fare and put up a solid scrap on medium tackle. The key is a quiet approach and precise bait placement - spook them once and they're gone.
Gag grouper represent some of the best eating fish in these waters, and the structure around Clearwater holds good numbers. These fish are ambush predators that set up in holes and ledges, waiting for bait to drift by. They typically run 3 to 8 pounds inshore, with the occasional bigger fish that'll test your drag. Fall and winter months are prime time when they're most active in the shallower structure we fish. The fight is all about the first few seconds - they'll try to get back to their hole, so you need to turn them quick and keep them coming up.
Snook are the crown jewel of inshore fishing around here, and Clearwater's got some of the most consistent fishing in the state. These fish are structure-oriented, setting up around docks, mangroves, and bridges where they can ambush passing baitfish. They're most active during the warmer months and can range anywhere from schoolie size up to slot fish that push 8 or 10 pounds. What makes snook special is their explosive strikes and acrobatic fights - they'll jump, run, and do everything they can to throw the hook. Plus, they're fantastic on the dinner table when they're in season.
Grey snapper, or mangrove snapper as most folks call them, are year-round residents that provide consistent action when other species might be finicky. These fish are smart and structure-oriented, holding around anything that provides cover and current breaks. They might not be the biggest fish you'll catch, but they're scrappy fighters and excellent eating. The key with mangrove snapper is downsizing your tackle and being patient - they'll often tap the bait several times before committing to a solid bite. During the extended charter timeframe, we can really work them over and put together some nice catches for the cooler.
This extended charter format is perfect for anglers who want to experience the full range of what Clearwater's inshore fishing has to offer. Those extra two hours make the difference between a good trip and a great one, giving us time to adjust tactics, explore different areas, and really zero in on the bite. With only two spots available per trip, you get the personalized attention that leads to better fishing and a more enjoyable day on the water. The Reel Fisher crew knows how to put you on fish,
